Hypnosis is not something mystical or unscientific as many still believe. On the contrary, hypnosis has been proven to benefit lives when properly used. It does not require strange or complicated techniques, and can be performed easily.

Hypnosis has been used to quit smoking, stop procrastination, improve memory, create ideas, increase sport and job performances, develop a strong confidence and self-image, and to form good habits.

The uses of hypnosis are limited only by the imagination. If you can think of it, you can use hypnosis to improve it. Is there a particular problem that you want solved? Habits to break or form? Do you want an improved memory or to perform better at your job? Make a list of the things that you would like to improve in your life, and then chose the most important thing from your list to use with hypnosis. Set a time each day for practice. Ideally you should spend twenty to thirty minutes for each session in the morning or evening, five to six days a week.

To begin your hypnotic session first get comfortable by lying in a bed or sitting in a chair, but don't get so comfortable that you fall asleep. Close your eyes. Take deep breaths through your nose and breath in a manner that makes your stomach rise (not your lungs), then breath out through your mouth. With each exhalation imagine that all of your stress and tension is leaving your body and thoughts.

After a few minutes of this breathing exercise begin to relax your entire body, muscle by muscle. As you do so mentally tell each body part to relax. Start with your toes and feet and tell them to release any tension, then mentally move up to the calves, thighs, buttocks, abdomen, chest and back, shoulders, arms and hands, and finally the neck, face, and head. Remember to continue breathing deeply throughout the exercise. Now imagine that your entire body feels very, very heavy and is sinking slowly into the bed or chair.

Picture yourself in an elevator on the 25th floor of a tall building. As the elevator proceeds downwards mentally count down the floor numbers -- 25...24...23... and so on until you reach 0.

When the elevator doors open visualize stepping into a place ideally suited to helping you accomplish your goal. For instance, if you want to develop enthusiasm for exercising everyday imagine yourself in a gym where you begin to workout. See yourself in the mirror exactly how you want to look, and feel pleased that your daily exercise routine has paid off.

If you want answers to a particulary difficult problem you could visualize talking to an expert or mentor who shares his or her problem solving ideas with you. To improve at a sport like basketball imagine that you are at a basketball court shooting baskets perfectly and playing with the best.

Whatever visualization technique you use make sure that you are also using positive affirmations voiced either mentally or verbally. In our exercise example for instance, you could use this affirmation: "I love to exercise for an hour a day, five days a week, and I am very pleased with the way I look and feel from my efforts." Make the affirmations as positive and emotionally appealing as possible.

Practice hypnotic sessions regularly and within a few days to a couple of weeks you will begin to see results towards your chosen goal.
